  • Morris Communications holdings include 13 daily newspapers, numerous nondaily and free community papers, six branches of Fairway Outdoor Advertising, 33 radio stations and two radio networks, two book publishing and distribution houses, numerous magazines and specialized publications, more than 100 visitor (travel and tourism) publications, including Where Guestbooks and magazines, maps, Best Read Guides, an online service and two event marketing companies.
  • Morris Publishing Group was formed in 2001 and assumed the operations of the newspaper business segment of its parent company, Morris Communications Co. May 28, 1945: Southeastern Newspapers Inc. is established.

Aug. 1, 1963: Southeastern Newspapers Corp. formed.

April 11, 1966
: William S. Morris III elected president of Southeastern Newspapers Corp. and named publisher of The Augusta Chronicle and Augusta Herald.

Nov. 4, 1970
: Morris Communications Corp. is established.

Jan. 1, 1983: Morris Communications acquires Florida Publishing Co. The purchase includes The Florida Times-Union, Jacksonville; Jacksonville Journal; The St. Augustine Record; and weekly Courier-Journal in Crescent City.

July 1985: Morris purchases Naegele Outdoor Advertising Inc.

June 14, 1995: Purchase of Stauffer Communications Inc. is completed.

March 1, 1998: Morris purchases Cadogan Guides, London, England, and creates Morris Publications Ltd. UK. Later purchases several London-based visitor publications.

October 2001: Morris Publishing Group is formed.

Oct. 31, 2001: Legal name of company changed to Morris Communications Company LLC.
